Induction Ceremony

The Greater Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame inducted the Class of 2021 on Tuesday, October 19, at the Cleveland Marriott Downtown at Key Tower. The event was presented by Discount Drug Mart, and featured PGA Professional and 2003 British Open Champion Ben Curtis, NBA stars Larry Nance, Sr. and Zydrunas Ilgauskas, and the late sports media personality Les Levine.

In addition, the GCSHOF honored Chairman Emeritus Jack Herrick for his extraordinary leadership of the organization for more than twenty-five years.

Earlier, GCSHOF Chairman John Herrick, Jr. announced a new Board structure and additional members of the Board at the most recent board meeting, naming Cleveland Indians SVP/Public Affairs Bob DiBiasio as President of the Board, and FOX8 Sports Anchor John Telich as Vice President.

The following new board members were also announced by Herrick:

  • Dr. James Voos, Chair of the Department of Orthopedics at University Hospitals and Head Team Physician for the Cleveland Browns
  • Tom Gill, President, Urban Community School
  • Andre Knott of Bally Sports Great Lakes
  • Jon Groza, Partner, Kohrman Jackson & Kranz LLP, and grandson of Browns Hall of Farner Lou “The Toe” Groza.

The GCSHOF celebrates star athletes and notable sports figures who were either born in Greater Cleveland or have made their home in our region. Nominations are accepted from an eight-county area, including Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Ashtabula, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit.

The Greater Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame tells the story of discipline, commitment, perseverance, sportsmanship, and excellence in achievement. The GCSHOF encourages and inspires those who believe in the importance of sport and its direct impact on the well-being of our community.
